"Bobby, I'm not going to have this conversation with you." Alex was putting her hands up pushing away the tangible discomfort that was trying to envelop her. She was keeping her head down as she walked slightly ahead of him. He sort of lumbered behind her, his voice catching slightly in a muted whine. His arms reaching out to touch her as she picked up her pace.
"Why not? Why can't we talk about this?" His hand caught her elbow as she slowed to a stop. She lifted her head up scanning the skyline around them, she brought her gaze back down, but immediately turned her head to the left, looking down the alley that stretched into the shadows from where they were standing. Her eyes scanned along the fences frantically searching for something to look at. Bobby was folding his whole body over trying to meet her gaze. "Why won't you look at me?"
Settling on just closing her eyes she pinched at the bridge of her nose. She accented her pauses with deep sighs as she spoke. "Because, Bobby, I feel very, uncomfortable, right now." He was holding both her forearms gently now, and bending at the knee slightly, so he could look up at her like a child, lifting his eyebrows in expectation.
"Why does it make you uncomfortable?" His arms had moved slightly higher on her arms, and she could feel his grip tighten ever so slightly. She was looking at the broken glass glittering up between them on the pavement, but she knew he wasn't going to let her go until she met his gaze. Finally, after her stomach finished a complete turn, she moved her eyes up over the his belt buckle, tie, shirt collar, and finally his face. Her skin felt suddenly cool and damp, as she looked into his eyes.
"Bobby, there are some things I'd rather not know, that I don't think I really need to know." She dropped her eyes immediately back down to the ground. Her cheeks flushed hot, and a tension was pulling at the back of her throat. His prolonged contact with her arms was starting to register in the more impulsive places in her brain. She was fixed again on the shattered glass between their feet. He pulled her closer to him, until her head was buried in his chest, and he was holding her arms tightly against her sides. She felt his cheek pressing against hers, through her hair. His breath was hot as he whipsered into her ear.
"I want you." A jolt of electricity shot from her brain down to her toes and then back up again as he released her and started walking ahead of her toward the car. She deliberatly stayed behind him as she followed in the quiet dusk. She felt a strange pressure under skin and realized it was desire. As she sat at her desk in the office, she found her thoughts drifting to images of Bobby strong and naked next to her in a bed, gently cupping her body. Wondering what it would feel like if he ran finger tip down the center of her torso. She managed to avoid him until their shift ended.
They stood next to each other in front of the elevator, Alex couldn't lift her head and meet Goren's eyes. She was sure she would blush little a little girl, and she was not a little girl. The doors opened and they stepped into the empty elevator car. After the doors closed Bobby let his voice fill the space around them. "I can't stop thinking about you Alex." He wasn't looking down at her, but rather straight ahead.
"Bobby," she let out, her head fall slightly to one side while her eyes stayed fixed on the elevator doors in front of her, "I really don't want to talk about this." The doors opened and they walked out into the dark grey parking garage.
She tried to keep her head focused straight ahead as she drove toward his apartment. She could feel him staring at her profile from the passenger seat, and it made her feel dizzy. As they waited at the light she caught herself imagining how his skin would feel pressed up against hers. Wondering how he'd be with her.
They sat in silence in front of his apartment.
"People have feelings they don't act on all the time." She finally said. She was staring into her lap and playing with the car keys, endlessly turning one of them between her fingers, and letting the others fall in a rhythmic jangle.
"Please Alex." He was half whispering.
She didn't say anything, just got out of the car. She walked ahead of him towards the building, as he slammed his door shut and scrambled to catch up with her. They rode quietly in the elevator and she walked ahead of him when they reached his floor. She stared down at her boots as he unlocked the door. He gestured for her to enter. Sensing it more than seeing it she stepped into the dark. She heard the door close behind them, and her stomach turned again. Her fingertips felt cold, and her shoulders suddenly felt heavy with the weight of her head.
She jumped slightly when she felt his hands gently resting on her shoulders. He quietly pulled off her jacket. Her head swooned slightly and she could hear the faint skitter of buttons as he tossed her jacket onto the kitchen table. She felt feverish when she sensed him behind her. His hand brushed her hair away from her neck over her left shoulder and a wave of goosebumps rose over her entire body. She felt cold and weak. And then she felt the heat of his mouth. He pressed a single gentle kiss against the back of her neck, and she breathed in suddenly. A stilted whisper that echoed through the dark apartment. |
